Next time you're in Beacon NY, on your way to visit the DIA art museum be sure to check out the "Welcome To Beacon" sign located on Beekman Street at the entrance of the metro north train station (Beacon stop) just down the street from the DIA. A group of local artists were each given a letter to work their magic. Here are some pics of mine along with a few of the others. My letter "E" was inspired by "Electric Windows" (an art installation project at the end of Main St. where artists have painted large murals which are displayed in the windows of a 19th century factory building.

    DEAL ME A CARD!
I was recently asked to be a part a a really cool project. I am super stoked to be able to say that I am now officially a trading card, ha-ha.
There will be a bunch of autograph and original art cards thrown in to the mix as well, you can read all about the project here...
So many great artists, should be a fun series to collect!
  • The Art Hustle

  • Taken from the website...

"The Art Hustle is a set of art and artist-based trading cards produced by The Cardhacks and manufactured in the USA by SideKick Media. The set is very much a collaborative effort with artists, and exhibits an international group working in multiple disciplines, including street art, toy art, Kaiju, sketch, painting, aerosol art, poster art, collage, digital art, sculpture, photography and more.

What makes The Art Hustle so cool is that it gives you a completely new experience as a collector and art-lover. Not only are the cards unique and great, you also have a chance to get an original piece of art! Plus, being inspired by trading cards produced in the 1960's, 70's & 80's, the set offers up some vintage-inspired flavor including chipboard card stock and the much-loved wax paper wrapper.

The Art Hustle is a new frontier in Art and Trading Cards. It is a living exhibition of talent, and a hell of a lot of fun.

    What will the set include?

The Art Hustle's first series will contain 162 base cards featuring the following:
Artist Profile Cards: Artist “Portraits” complete with profile information and Interesting Facts on the back similar to the stats on a sports card. Being a collaboration, each image has been chosen by the artist, and is therefore a very personal representation. All profile information was submitted by the artists based on a common list of questions.
Art Cards: For each Artist Card there is a corresponding Art Card featuring an image of a piece of art chosen by that artist to represent their body of work.
Additional Profile Cards: Art-scene personalities integral to this first series.
Original Art Cards: Original artwork created on exclusive cards and submitted by each artist. Original Art Cards will be randomly placed in packs. One Original Art Card is guaranteed in every box.
Autograph Cards: Special Autograph cards featuring artists' original signatures.
Vintage-Style Wax Packs! A lost process that has been revived by SideKick Media.
Surprises!: You will not want to miss the special extras in this set!"

Note: Just wanted to give my bud Garnet a shout on this as well... the "Carneys" and Carney toys are a group effort between him and I. We both put our time and hard earned dollars in to making the Buzz toy. Hopefully all of this toy stuff will pay off and land us a series deal one of these days.

    TIMBER!
Can't get enough of the woods art lately. Here is the beginnings of another piece for my upcoming show in June at Dream in Plastic. Can't wait to get painting these! It's kind of refreshing to work in a new style again. Also on the home decorating front... as you can see I added a new stump to the bedroom. I was walking home from the train a few weeks back and noticed there were a bunch of trees that were cut down/back along the highway. Found this beauty and hauled it all the way up to my place. For those of you that have walked to my place from the train, you know it can be quite a task. It's a super steep trek. Anyways I did a lot of work on it to get it to the state you see it now. I had to saw off a pretty good chunk that was cut unevenly when I found it. I cleaned up both ends an leveled it out. Then I needed to carve out a little sliver of rot that was starting to form. The stump needed to be dried out as well. I wanted to make sure there were no dormant little bugs hanging around too, so it was a long time before I actually felt comfortable bringing the tree in the room. Eventually I may decide to polyurethane the ends, but I just want to make sure it's fully dry 1st.

    SKETCHBOT
So this is a little late, but I was part of a custom toy show this past Friday. The paltform was Steve Talkowski's Sketchbot figure. I have been itching to do a little sculpting for a while now, so I figured I'd give it a go and start with something simple. I have kind of been obsessed with this whole woods theme in my art plus I figured since its a robot everyone is going to be doing these really techy customs. So with that in mind I turned Sketchbot in to a tree, ha-ha. Actually I think it was my girlfriends idea originally. I also wanted to put something inside to make the custom more interesting. I picked up one of Nathan Jurevicius's Paleda Owl wind-up toys. It was a little too big to fit inside of Sketchbot, so I disassembled the wind-up mechanism and took a hacksaw to the bottom of the toy to shorten it a bit. Then I painted it and inserted the figure inside of my custom. Anyways here's the finished product, hope you guys like it. Show is up until April 23rd at...

    PAINTING THE TOWN!
Here's a few pix from the live painting session I did this past weekend With Dan Weise. The event is a monthly party called Next Step that is held at the Piggy Bank (448 Main St, Beacon New York) The party serves as a fundraiser to help support the Electric Windows art project in Beacon. At the end of the night the painting is auctioned off. It's a fun night of music, dancing, and live art. Here's a link to the Electric Windows site as well...

  • From their Facebook page... "On July 31, 2010, twenty four street artists, from around the globe, will converge in Beacon, NY. During a three day period they will create live artwork and have it installed on the exterior of a 19th century factory building on Main Street."
