ALL DECKED OUT!
Check it out... pics from the "3 Feet High" skate deck art show! I snagged these off of
  • Andrea's site
  • What a fun night! Another great turn out & another great show. There were some really amazing decks on display, I was totally blown away. If ya look, you can see my two hangin' on the walls. They're the ones with the cartoon cats. The first one has a blue cat head screaming on the lower half of the deck... on the upper is a hand holding a giant question mark shaped knife. The second deck has a cat hanging dead from a tree. A whole play on the "Hang in there!" posters you always see in the doctors office. For this one I left the tree unpainted as to let the wood grain show through. For both I was trying to go with the whole "curiosity killed the cat" thing. Remember, the theme for the show was "Curious". Anyways, enjoy the pics. There's plenty more on Andrea's site if you want to check them out.

    SKATE NIGHT
I was asked by my friend Jason to do a flyer for "Skate Rock Night" at his bar
  • Savalas
  • Skate Rock Night is basically a night of skate videos on the projection screen, drinkin, & good music! I wanted to do a kind of Ed Roth/ Rat Fink type thing with this one. It was fun to mess around with a different style. I think I started to get it more on the second sketch. The Pinstriping for the border was also fun. I've always been fascinated with custom auto detailing... don't know a whole lot about it, but I've been to my fair share of auto shows. Wonder if it's a fun gig? Anyways, I'm still waiting on the text, so I'm sure things will move around a bit still. Just wanted to give you folks a sneak peek. It's gonna be a double sided deal, so I've got to come up with something for the backside as well. Ill post the final for you guys to check out hopefully some time this week.
Also... don't forget, tonight is the "3 Feet High" skate deck art show!!! Read more about it on the

    DOUBLE-DECKER
The "3 Feet High" skate deck art show is coming up! I mentioned this art exhibit in one or two of my earlier posts. I myself will have 2 decks in the show. It was nice to get away from the digital a bit & break out the paints again. From what I gather there should be somewheres between 75-100 decks on display by various artists with the universal theme being "curious". All decks are for sale so bring your wallets. The show is at
  • Maxwells
  • in Hoboken. I know it's tough to get you city folk (me included) out to Jersey, but I think it'll be worth it. There will be a couple really great artists in attendance. Plus, what else do you got goin' on a Monday night? It's only one stop over on the Path train, c'mon!!! Decks, drinks, & dj's... it's gonna be sweet! Sorry I haven't posted any pics of the decks yet but you can check out
  • Danny Kimanyen's blog
  • for a sampling of what to expect at the show. Here's
  • directions
  • from the Path & city for anyone interested. See you there... no excuses! Opening reception is Monday, April 24th from 7-11pm.

    INTRODUCING...
We're currently throwing together some artwork for a write-up in
  • Playtimes magazine
  • Playtimes is a monthly magazine featuring toys, character design and the culture around toy design. It is currently being printed in both english and chinese. Here is some new Carney artwork. We hope to make all these bad boys toys sooner or later. A lot of folks have been asking about the other characters in the line... well, this post is for you guys. Who's your favorite Carney???

    NEXT IN LINE
Well, we're starting to lay the groundwork on our next toy in the "Carneys" series. This is Harriet "The Horrendously Hairy Housewife" as she looked a few years back in a rotation created for the Carney promo. With the toy line we kind of want to make the characters pop a bit more. I kind of copped out when I originally designed the outfits for these dudes. For some reason unitards made me laugh. Overall we want the toys to feel a bit more "sideshow" than they did in the promo. For most of the characters this will just mean outfit changes.

These are a few outfit options we came up with for the Harriet toy. We decided to give her a "burlesque on the beach" type feel. After all, carnival sideshows & burlesque shows go hand-in-hand.

As it stands now, this is what we're goin' with. It is still early in the game & there's a possibility this may still change. We're debating on possibly doing the dress as a separate attachment.

After deciding on the outfit, I went over the previous rotation adding the outfit change. I also made slight tweaks in Harriets structure... you may notice she now has a neck. So there you have it... Harriet! I wanna try & take you guys step by step through the production of our next toy, this being the first, hope you dig!
